Do the Do

Part 1:

I've been a part-your-hair-to-the-side kind of girl. Exception: when I was 12 and now. I think I'm growing rather fond of the extreme or unflattering look people often call it.

Rad hair,

Sometimes I wish I had hair like is,

Anyways...Here is some hogwash I found, maybe it will help you decided whether you really are a part-your-hair-down-the-middle kind of girl or part-your-hair-to-the-side kind of girl.
  • Symmetry: If you have a slightly crooked nose or somewhat unaligned eyes, a severe straight-down-the-middle part can have a tendency to highlight what you don't want to highlight. Instead, go for a part that's just a wee bit off to the middle. You'll still get the same effect but with more flattering results.

  • Softer styles: If you're dead set on going for exactly in the center but are worried about it being too extreme, just create a smaller part instead, which looks a bit softer. You can also try starting your part in the middle at the hairline, and veer slightly off-center to the side as you work your way back. Another trick? Still part your hair down the middle, but use your fingers to create a not-too-perfectly-straight part you'd get from a comb.

  • Widow's peak: If you have a widow's peak, a middle part can work for you too. You don't have to fight the natural parting of your hair, but you can coerce it to lie flat by combing damp hair tautly with a brush, followed by a blow dryer to set.

  • From boho to sleek: Middle parts on long hair create a bohemian, laid-back vibe. To transform the look into a sleek nighttime style, break out the flat-iron to create straight locks. Keep your makeup clean and simple so as to not compete with your more severe hairstyle.

  • Do it up: If you're considering wearing your hair back, take some inspiration from Cameron, who wore this loose, slightly off-center part with a wavy ponytail. For something more formal, slick your hair back into a tight bun to showcase your center part.
So now it's up to you! Chow

The Remarkable Soul of a Woman

President Uchtdorf is a swell man! I was hanging at my family's house the other day and happened upon this book. I tuned everyone else out for a little bit and snuggled on the couch. It didn't take long to soak it all in, it's quite small! It is actually the exact talk President Uchtdorf gave during a General Relief Society Conference just with pictures added. I think my favorite section was about creating. Here is a good quote!

"The desire to create is one of the deepest yearnings of the human soul. No matter our talents, education, backgrounds, or abilities, we each have an inherent wish to create something that did not exist before. Everyone can create…Creation brings deep satisfaction and fulfillment. We develop ourselves and others when we take unorganized matter into our hands and mold it into something of beauty—and I am not talking about the process of cleaning the rooms of your teenage children...Creation means bringing into existence something that did not exist before—colorful gardens, harmonious homes, family memories, flowing laughter. What you create doesn’t have to be perfect…Don’t let fear of failure discourage you. Don’t let the voice of critics paralyze you—whether that voice comes from the outside or the inside."

Barefooting

Barefooting (bare*foon*n) n. 3. an intelligent way to deepen your connection with your natural surroundings.[1] Here now, I said intelligent. I'll get to definition 1 and 2 later.

I don't know about you, but I didn't like to where shoes as a kid. Going barefoot was freedom! Can you feel squishy mud and dewy grass when you shod it? Heck no. N-a-t-u-r-a-l.
*
"The soles of the feet are remarkably sensitive. Thus they provide the body with perfect coordination and motion, and allow you to experience the environment."[2]

Besides...going barefoot is legal.

So, to help you get started on your journey to naturalization, I have provided the following information:

"Thirty minutes of daily barefoot locomotion is a recommended starting point to allow thickening of the sole of the foot and adaptation of muscles and ligaments (Robbins et al., 1993). Begin by walking barefoot at every reasonable opportunity then progress to jogging, gradually increasing the intensity and duration (Yessis 2000, p.124). After 3-4 weeks, the plantar skin eventually becomes robust and allows longer periods of barefoot running at higher average velocities (Robbins et al., 1993). To facilitate adaptation, perform progressive strengthening exercises for the foot and ankle, including foot inversion, toe flexion, and walking on the balls of the feet. Barefoot locomotion on uneven surfaces will also help stimulate the plantar surface and provide increased sensory feedback (Yessis 2000, p.125)." [3]

if you don't want your feet to look like this

allow me to introduce you to.....

willy and neil

Do you want the exhilarating joy of going barefoot without leaving yourself exposed? Do you want to be able to participate in any activity requiring unconventional footwear offering the protection of a thin, flexible Vibram skin?[1] Then the vibram five fingers are the shods for you.

The vibram five fingers. Its patented design mirrors the flex points and silhouette of your foot to propel your body forward and promote a more natural gait. Increased sense of balance, and expanded range of motion, and visibly improved posture.[1] You can find more info about them here or if I used my oh so persuasive powers on you, you can order them here:)
*
I can now add my very own personal witness to truth! I love em and I know you will love em too! Like I said earlier- I like to feel the squishy mud and dewy grass. It does takes some getting used to. Give yourself a couple weeks! You will feel new muscles in your thighs and calfs. Isn't it great! I can tell that my ankles are getting stronger..and that is a good thing for me. I've sprained/twisted my ankles before as I'm sure you have too. Say goodbye to weak ankles! I have seen an improvement in my balance-I can dodge them rocks! :) I really really like these shods!:)

Happy Trails!

The last 20 years

I'm sure you're wondering my very special blogging friends, how an awesome person like me came to be... well here it is!

Age 0> In my mommy's tummy eating chocolate (thanks to my mother this is a reaccuring event-minus being in the tummy..)

Age 1-3> Traumatic event. My uncle chased me around in a gorila suit. I have definately been permanently altered. I hate the zoo. There's another memory....something about a table and chairs and angry people...

Age 4-7> Learned how to ride a bike, remember watching Saturday's Warrior, discovered my favorite christmas song of all time hey santa. My grandma told me that she saw a dog running around in her neighbors yard, then she told me that the dog had died 4 days previously. I combed my grand pappys hair for a quarter. I touched an electic fence. I won the schools art contest grades kinder-4th..ha! Our school was soo small i remember when the 4th graders had to learn cursive... We lived in a white barn, log cabin, and a normal house. Two of my dogs died strangly shocking deaths....I havent owned a dog since. They were traumatic events..

Age 8-12> My dad got custody of me. I invented kids day June 24th (We still celebrate it to this day:)) Played soccer for 4 seasons...i cant....remember...all our names....dang... I know one was raiders. Met Jasmine! Jumped rope with Jasmine in the school talent show to some nsync song. I need love, you need love, we all really need love.. Discovered I could only be a soccer coach or an opera singer. Had my first boyfriend, Trever. It only lasted 2 days. Our love was sweet though. Subway....biking.... and I think his sister stole my quarters. I went to Florida all by my lonesome to visit my cousins. On the plane I thought I was high and mighty! I could order all the ginger ale and hot chocolate I wanted. The Christmas Eve of my 12th year my dad woke me and my brother up around midnight and we went sledding on a golf course. Ya, we had to jump a couple of fences..and I ripped my snow pants.

Age 13-16> My teens.. We moved to Kaysville. My cousins moved to Kaysville. Actually most of my extended family lives in Kaysville now.. :) AND it is spectacular! 9th grade was a hard year... I started my High School career with my cousins and new found friends. I got a job at Dylans (because of Mike:)) Mmm...good days. Ice skating on the floors, snow ball fights. I learned how to drive in my parents old white van-auto. My first date was with Mike at the Christmas Dance. I took piano lessons for a year and then I got a letter in the mail from my teacher saying I needed to quit....ha, i wouldn't practice=)

Age 17-18> Katya!!! I got my first car.. a white daihatsu charade (aka old betsy). I have to mention that I almost died in this car; there are too many times to count. I played softball for the city of Kaysville. For three weeks I worked at Holister, and one week at Papa Murphys. I couldn't take the dramma! I did learn valuable folding skills and the correct pizza making procedure.. I graduated high school. Went skydiving day after. Moved out. :) Bam! ....met James. Went to Oregon with my family and ate shark. Started working at Country Care Assisted Living and met Elva:) My 18th Birthday me and my dad went to Cali to get my buggy. On the way, old betsy broke down right outside of Vegas...we had to hitch hike back into Vegas and take a night bus the rest of the way. In the morning we walked the couple miles to the dealership. I learned a lot from my dad:) Went to college...for a semester.

Age 19-NOW> Moved to Farmington.. Started reading intelletual books...ha. Went to college for....a semester. Started learning the guitar. Started running (and I have now completed a 5k, 10k, 10 miler, half marathon, 30k and I signed up for a marathon in Aug). I'm in a play! The King and I... I am one of many wives. I might go to Samoa in Aug with my momma for the 5 year reunion. I sure do hope that works out...

Well...there you have it! I'm swell and so is my backgroud. Be sure to stay tuned for the next 20 years...in 20. Cheers!
